As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, knowing more than one language is more important than ever to being a successful student and member of the workforce. Here are just a few reasons to encourage your child to learn a second language and to seek a child care center that promotes this education:
- Children’s brains can learn new languages quickly and easily. When children are young, their brains are like sponges and they can easily learn new skills. This is especially true of languages; as easily as a young child learns a first language, he can learn a second, with a level of competency that he will not experience when he is older.
- Learning a new language creates global citizens. With the internet and global trade being more important than ever, your child will not grow up in a world that speaks only English. Instead, in his work and personal life, he may be exposed to myriad cultures and languages. Learning a new language at a young age teaches him to value cultural diversity and learn from other societies, which are vital skills for succeeding in a global world.
- Studying a language improves cognitive abilities. Learning a second language engages many areas of the brain, which makes children more able to master other activities. Learning a second language now will help your child learn new subjects like language arts and chemistry more easily in the future.
- Multilingualism can lead to better test scores. With standardized test scores more important than ever for college admission, kids need every advantage they can find to score high. According to the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, studying a second language directly correlates to improved standardized test scores, allowing your child to get into his dream college.
If you want to get your child started on a path to academic success, make sure his early education curriculum includes a foreign language. At A Child’s World in Doylestown, we pride ourselves on teaching students a second language to help them learn and get ahead in life. Learn more about our curriculum by calling (267) 337-6456.

Young children have a strong attachment to their parents and rely on them as a source of comfort and stability. When change occurs, particularly when they are introduced to a new environment like a preschool, it is natural for many children to feel anxious. Reactions vary from child to child, ranging from mild displays of discomfort to all-out tantrums. Here are some tips to help your child with the transition to new situations:
Practice
Even in your child’s first year, allowing him or her to stay in the care of trusted friends, family members, and babysitters can be beneficial. Play dates and outings can help your child become more comfortable outside of the normal home environment.
Timing
To minimize the likelihood of a tantrum, avoid introducing your child to a new person or environment when he or she is tired, hungry, or otherwise irritable. Children are usually most vulnerable to separation anxiety between the ages of eight months and one year, so be sensitive to this and avoid pushing them too much during this time.
Consistency
Avoid sneaking away, becoming emotional, or otherwise reinforcing your child’s anxiety. Create a quick and affectionate ritual for saying goodbye and reuniting in order to establish a relationship of trust. Stick to your routine and do not reward tantrums with an excess of attention or affection. It can be helpful to create a regular schedule—your consistent return at a scheduled time will help a child gain confidence in your promises.
Patience
Remember that this phase will not last forever. Appreciate the attachment your child has developed for you and try to remain patient and firm in your behaviors. If your child develops symptoms of extreme panic or other fears that seem extreme or irrational, you may want to talk to a doctor.

Young children often learn their best through playing. At A Child’s World, we offer a curriculum called Living Education, which develops children’s abilities in reading, math, social studies, and sciences through activities, crafts, and games that are engaging and fun.
Anatomy and Identity
In October, the children learn what makes up the inside and outside of their bodies. They interpret these ideas creatively and ultimately translate them into a parade. They are asked to consider their identity and the importance of education.
Geography
In November, the kids learn about U.S. traditions and geography, culminating in a Thanksgiving feast for which they create food, costumes, and scenery. In December, they broaden their worldview by researching different countries and international traditions.
Family
Throughout the year, the children learn to think about their own identity, the importance of family, and concepts of freedom and democracy while actively and creatively engaged. In the springtime, they prepare gifts and cards for their parents.
Science
The children get to learn about life science through hands-on experiences in the springtime as they watch eggs hatch and participate in exciting science experiments. They will also delve into the past, learning about dinosaurs during winter sessions.
History
In February, the kids learn about important U.S. presidents and other historical figures who shaped our nation. Throughout the year, they begin to learn about historical events around the world.
Reading
Children who attend A Child’s World often graduate our kindergarten program reading at a second- or third-grade level. Reading skills are strengthened throughout the year and enforced through studies of a wide variety of topics.
